The Game

A science fiction (possibly science fantasy) setting where near-omnipotent beings shape the universe, sometimes breaking entire civilizations, ostensibly to prevent future mega-disasters. Some of them, though, play a vast game with those worlds, destroying civilizations they know are already doomed—usually by their own actions—for what amount to style points. Hopefully as the worlds rebuild, they won’t make the same mistakes that led them to being turned into a playing field…
